The Tri-ang R3.A Mainline express train set was released for just two years, 1958 and 1959. The set comprised an R.50 Black Princess 7P Locomotive with tender. Additionally, there were two R.29, 9″ main line composite coaches. The princess was the first locomotive issued by Tri-ang in 1952. The early versions had plunger pickups.

There was also an oval of series 3 track in the set. Series three track was derived from the old standard track with the same rail profile and unrealistic sleeper spacing. The track was plated but rusts like a dream if kept in a damp environment. The track also had a 13.5 ” radius which is much tighter than modern track.

The coaches had open axles and no interior seating units. However, more realistic length coaches came along in the late 1950s along with seating units for the older coaches.

This set came with a battery controller.
